As a graphic design intern here at Brand 1111 I knew I was going to come out of this having some better knowledge of graphic design and a grasp of what to expect with dealing with real world clients and projects. Here are some things that I've learned over my time here. It's important to save often, because you never know when you're going to be kicked off the server. Or when the battery backup decides to fail. The client is always right. Keep it simple. Keep it clean. People design more in Wordpress than HTML. Remember to always name and … [Read more...]
A Designer’s Inspiration
I am often asked where I get my inspiration for my design work. Quite honestly, I can say that there is not one single place that it comes from. Rather, it comes from all around me. On a daily basis, regardless of what I am doing or where I am at, I am always looking at advertisements, logos, etc; and analyzing those that I think are good, bad, and once in a while - awesome. I do this to keep myself "on my toes" and my artistic eye sharpened at all times. I think of graphic design as a form of art and in order to continue improving your skills, you must … [Read more...]
The journey continues . . .
Greetings! It's been about a month since I have had the wonderful privilege of interning at Brand1111 and it is going great. I have had a lot of fun working on several projects and honing my overall design skills and time efficiency skills. I love to design, so my work hardly ever feels like "work" if you catch my drift. And my office comrades certainly add an element of fun and laughter to the office environment. As I continue to expand of everything that is design related, I know that one of my top goals is to become a "photoshop guru" as some … [Read more...]
In the beginning…
Hi, everyone! My name is Jackie and I am the newest intern at Brand Eleven Eleven. I began my internship just before the holidays and so far it has been a great experience. One of the most important things that I am refining right now are my time management skills. While at school, you are able to spend countless of hours devoted to one project. However, in "real life", the same principle cannot be applied. There are many projects happening at a time that have short deadlines that must be met. Because of that, being efficient (and fast) while … [Read more...]
You learn something new everyday
As the new intern at Brand 1111, I am trying to learn and take in all that I can. I've only been here for a few weeks and have already learned so many new, easier and efficient ways to making the designing job easier! From WordPress for websites, Constant Contact for email blast and newsletter, to Mavenlink for internal organization. One of the things I think will help me a lot after my internship is WordPress. WordPress is a free web and blogging too. It is currently the most popular on the internet. WordPress has over 1500 different themes , … [Read more...]
Real World vs. School
Hello! My name is Angela Duncan and I am the new intern at Brand 1111. The internship here is the last step before graduating from SCF with my degree in Graphic Design. I am not sure where I want to go with my degree but Im hoping working with Brand 1111 will point me in the right direction. I've always liked the idea of designing advertisement pieces (business cards, letterheads, mailers, post cards etc.) But here Im hoping to work with multiple projects. I wasn't sure what to expect when coming into this internship, I pictured lots of people who … [Read more...]
The Newbie in Town
Hey there readers! My name is Katelyn Drenchen and I am the newest intern at Brand Eleven Eleven. So first I will tell you a little bit about me. I will be a junior at Southeastern University and I am studying Journalism and Public Relations (PR). My big dream is to have my own wedding planning company and help brides on their big day, but the funny thing is that I have never actually been in a wedding and have only attended two weddings that I can remember, but I know that's my dream! Since I am going into my junior year in college I figured I should … [Read more...]
Where I want to go from here…
I graduate from SCF with my Associates Degree in Graphic Design next week, so like any new graduate I've been asking myself "where do I go from here?" I think about what I learned at school, at my internship at Brand 1111, and from my previous work experience. What do I want out of life, out of my career, what are my goals, my dreams, etc. My ultimate dream is to have my own freelance business in Graphic/Web Design, but since the economy still isn't great I do worry if this is a realistic dream. Timing is everything, especially for a new start-up … [Read more...]
Choosing Community Partners
Brittney and I attended the latest FPRA (Florida Public Relations Association) Luncheon, the topic was "How Choosing the Right Community Partners Can Help Your Business Grow". The speaker was Rachelle Madrigal, the Manager of Sales & Marketing for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders. Rachelle was a great speaker: she got up, gave her speech, answered questions, all without a distracting Powerpoint presentation. She went into great detail about the different "Community Partners" that the Pirates and the Marauders have lasting relationships … [Read more...]
Learning about SEO and YouTube
As the newest Intern I was invited by the ladies of Brand Eleven Eleven to attend a my first SEO seminar; "Increasing your SEO using YouTube", sponsored by Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) and held at the Meadows Country Club. The speaker was Maggie Lacher, the Regional Marketing Director for Florida Radiation Oncology Group and she was fabulous! I learned a great deal about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) in general, but also how to use YouTube as a marketing tool and maxing out it's potential. Who knew that search engines really crawl the … [Read more...]
