Let’s get right to it. Here are eleven tips that every business should use to build towards success:
Be Visible
There was a time when business owners attended conferences, did lectures, and put up a table at state fairs to be noticed. You can still do all of those things, but social media and SEO has changed how you can be visible to others. If you used correctly, you can build customers along with a network of contacts. (HINT: It’s all about whether your content benefits others.)
Brand Your Company
Create your brand, Convey your brand with your target audience, and Connect your brand with customers. This is the foundation of every successful business.
Try everything
Here is the best way to explain the phrase, try everything:
- You came up with an idea for X. It did not work, so you tried Y. You realized that you needed a combination of X and Y to create a new idea that turned into Z.
- You have to try several ideas and use a combination of those ideas to create opportunities.
Guard Your Character
This includes your business personality, disposition, moral fiber, integrity, and reputation. Everything you do should have a positive impact on others, especially your target audience.
If you want to have a successful business that the entire world looks to as an example of worthiness, then you must first be an example of worthiness.
Improve
Everyday, you should look at your business objectively to find ways to improve. This may be something complicated like finding a niche trend that your business could attempt to capture, or the paper filing system in your office. There is always something that can be done better.
Serve Your Target Customers
Customers know what they want. If you are in business for yourself and hoping to obtain customers based your aspirations, your chances of success are about zero. If you are working to serve a large target group of customers, then your chances of success are favorable.
Succeed, Expand, Succeed, Expand
There are two schools of thought:
- Concentrate on one area of your business and succeed.
- Excel in one area of your business, then expand to other areas, excel, then expand some more.
Which choice do you think will bring more opportunities?
Solve Problems
Is there a problem with the industry you work in? Find a way to solve it.
Is there a problem with how certain products are presented to customers? Find a way to change the process.
Is there a way your business can help single mothers? Find an answer.
Is there a better way that local businesses can work together? Find a solution.
If you are a problem solver, people will follow you anywhere. If they follow you, they will purchase your products or service.
“No.”
Every business needs an objective advisor to say “no” to ideas. This will keep your business humble and push you to find better ideas, or polish existing ideas. Most of all, a “no” will challenge you to rework that idea until you can get a, “yes.”
You need someone to keep your business in line and motivated to excel at the highest level.
Adjust
Everything we discussed so far is about your willingness to adjust. When things go wrong, adjust. When the economy drastically changes, adjust. When you are having a rotten day, adjust your thinking. Nothing is going to be perfect in your business. Fiddle with different ideas. Correct your mistakes. Modify, tweak, and adapt.
Enjoy Every Moment
You should be able to enjoy every aspect of your business, including when things are going wrong. If you find yourself complaining at the end of each day, then maybe you need to find another direction.
