Just around the beginning of March YouTube launched a new design for the appearance of YouTube channels. This is a big update from the old look and a much needed cosmetic change for the channel. This change brings in a lot of customization for the channel page.
The first big change is Youtube allows you to set up a video trailer to target the audience that is not subscribed to your channel and tell a little about yourself. This enables a chance to make a first impression count to capture your audience and have them subscribe to your channel to see all of the updates you are doing.
What are you viewing this blog on right now? A computer, tablet, TV screen, or even a smartphone all have different types and sizes of screens. This new update allows your content to look the absolute best on any screen. Your channel art will scale to the size of the screen to have it look the best that it can be.
Each and every channel will be unique because the channel allows full access to be customized. Everything from your recent uploads to your playlist can be on display in different ways by thumbnail or video with information to the right, or a thumbnail of the video with title below.

There now are more options to extend your branding possibilities using a custom tab in YouTube, although this is not free, it makes it possible te create a mini website within your YouTube brand channel. Clipster for YouTube (http://www.clipster-video.com) is a product that does this. I believe Wildfire (http://wildfireap.com) also has an option for that.
